All the hype and publicity has made Nandamuri Kalyanram’s OM one of the sure watches for many movie lovers this Friday. Let us see what our hero has actually done on silver screen to enthral us.

The CONTENT

Harischandra Prasad (veteran hero Karthik) is a businessman who leads many big businesses in Vizag port area along with his brother Suresh and friend Ahuti Prasad. His rise in the society makes many opponents jealous and Byreddy (Rao Ramesh ) is one among them. One day Byreddy plots to kill him and there comes Harischandra Prasad’s son Arjun (Kalyan Ram) to save his doting dad. After saving his dad, Arjun wants to take revenge on Byreddy, but his father prevents him doing so. Meanwhile Byreddy ropes in Bhavani (Sampath) by getting bail for him from jail and pitches him against Arjun. In the mean time, Arjun falls in love with Anjali (Kriti Kharbanda) and when he is about to tell this to father, there comes Rhea (Nikeesha Patel), daughter of Harischandra Prasad’s friend into scene. It is revealed that Anjali is actually working for Bhavani and is planning to get Arjun and his dad killed. So, what happens from there and what mind blowing twist one is to get from here forms the crux.

The EFFORT :

On-Screen:

Kalyan Ram, time and again, proves that he got calibre and only right script is essential to poke it out. This time, he is cool and simple in portraying emotions and maintained ease in action scenes. He carries the whole film on his shoulders with pulsating action.

Veteran hero Karthik stuns you with his different shaded role. Both as a doting father and a negative shaded businessman thirsty for wealth, he simply showcased his acting potential.

Rao Ramesh is slowly excelling in villianism like his father Rao Gopal Rao. In the role of politician turned fish-contractor, he enthrals with his north-Andhra slang dialogues. While his role is limited, his dialogue timing is remembered throughout.

Actor Sampath (Mirchi fame) once again shows his firmness, while others like Surya and Ahuti Prasad have simple one liners to support main cast.

Heroines Kriti Kharbanda and Nikeesha Patel are used to progress the story, but still they got only miniscule roles in this thrilling flick. Kriti showed that she is good at portraying all emotions, while Nikeesha is still plastic at times.

Off-Screen:

Director turned Cinematographer Sunil Reddy has come up with nice storyline that banks more on screenplay than dialogues or visual grandeur. He is good in deriving the best of every actor, and also made sure that direction dominates all other departments.

Main theme of OM is delivering a commercial movie in 3D format. Visually rich locations make any movie beautiful, but making even rustic locations look like a piece of canvas is possible through cinematographer’s work only. Cameraman Ajayanan Vincent rocks the show all the time with his stylish photography and mood lighting. Stereoscopic 3D depth achieved by some foreign technicians like Jai (London) is stunning, and compliments cinematography well. Main assets for OM 3D are breath taking visuals followed by surprising 3D elements (rain, flowers, blast debris) that fall on our face.

Music Director Sai Kartheek is becoming another Thaman when it comes to delivering hair rising background score. His not so loud yet powerfully heart touching music makes your feet shaking all the time.

Major thrill from OM 3D is its robust sound and the way it travels here and there in between our ears. National Award winning sound engineer, audiographer Narayanan truly deserves a pat on his shoulder for his sound magic.

Art work compliments the rustic theme and cold shaded scenes quite well. But the major credit goes to Visual Effects team that delivered some exciting sequences in the flick, making our jaw dropped. All the well choreographed action sequences are brought to life (in 3D) by VFX team only.

The PLUSES:

·               Visual effects showcased in 3D format

·               Pulsating screenplay twists

·               Kalyan Ram’s energetic performance

·               Well executed action sequences (first fight, bridge accident)

·               A couple of punch dialogues

The MINUSES:

·         Comedy is completely missing

·         Poor songs, both in  music and filming

·         Overdose of action (!)

BREAKDOWN:

Spending almost 25 crores without keeping market range and hero’s image in mind is really a big risk. But it looks like Kalyan Ram has taken all this risk by believing in the screenplay twists one will get stunned of OM 3D. But Kalyan Ram and director Sunil Reddy have depended a lot on action scenes and thrilling visual effects sequences, without giving priority to comedy and glamour elements. Maybe that will downplay the movie’s chances at B & C Centres, but still it will arrest you in seats for its twists in the tale.

For the first time after Athanokkade, Kalyan Ram once again believed in a screenplay based subject rather than loud dialogues, thigh slapping and odd fights. Still, movie got some naanna-raktam kind of dialogues anyway. No doubt he believed in right subject and spent every penny to make the flick look as interesting as possible.

Anyway, OM 3D is a treat watch only with 3D glasses, but experience at 2D theatres will be quite normal. A little of comedy and catchy songs would have made OM 3D a bigger success than what Kalyan Ram has actually thought of. But still the movie will attract youths and action-movie lovers and will mint for sure. With no other biggie in the town for next two weeks, Kalyan Ram is going mint money.

P.S.: Movies like OM 3D should be encouraged for their technical brilliance, albeit they lack some commercial ingredients. Also I couldn’t find out the link between the title ‘Om’ and the story of this flick. Maybe Kalyan Ram might have felt he is introducing Stereoscopic 3D for the first time in India and hence Omkaram.

The FINISHING Line:  Thrilling 3D movie with little bumps!
